Middle East Connection pays off for Wrexham cables company
Wrexham Mineral Cables (WMC) has dispatched a £250,000 order for fire survival power cables for a $430m new oil pumping station in Kuwait, plus a separate £90,000 order from another company for a new booster station.
Divisional manager Phil Thomas revealed the company was now quoting for work in the Middle East region on a regular basis and its exports were helping to secure the long term sustainability of the business.Projects manager Dave Winship said, ‘We seriously began targeting this region a few years ago and have been on several trade missions part sponsored by the Welsh government and UKTI which were invaluable.
‘We followed up with our own visits to the country later but had more enquiries on the strength of that mission as it gave us the opportunity to meet key contacts. And being part of a government mission gave us credibility.’
Business Minister Edwina Hart added, ‘I am pleased support from the Welsh government has helped Wrexham Mineral Cables make inroads into new markets, which in turn is sustaining local jobs.’
