ESC selects Scottish company for safety award

This year, the Electrical Safety Council’s (ESC) award for Best Electrical Safety Project at the SELECT Electrotechnical Awards was won by Crown House Technologies.

Held at Glasgow’s Radisson Blu Hotel, the awards ceremony celebrates the brightest and best of Scottish talent in the electrical sector.

‘This is the sixth year we have sponsored the award,’ explained Anneke Rousseau, head of communications at the ESC. ‘It gives us the opportunity to highlight and celebrate those companies that are championing electrical safety within their working practice. Awards are all about identifying and highlighting examples of best practice, so that industry can continue to raise the bar for the benefit of all.’

Based near Motherwell, Crown House Technologies – which also scooped the prize for Electrical Contractor of the Year and Best Environmental Project – received the ESC award for its work at Ragmore Hospital, Inverness, to modify facilities to include a new records section.

‘We have clearly defined safety rules and procedures,’ explained Jim Thomson, regional business leader, Crown House Technologies. ‘However, when we started on the Ragmore Hospital project – which involved stripping out redundant circuits and re-using switchboards – we realised that these processes needed to be revised to undertake the work safely. This type of continual improvement is key to developing best practice and providing a high quality service to our clients. We are delighted to win the ESC award, as we see safety as fundamental to all our activities.’
