The award is open to students undertaking an MSc in Light and Lighting at the Bartlett School of Graduate Studies, part of University College London.
Each year, students are asked to come up with lighting solutions and a business case to a real-life project. Bonnie, who undertook her Masters part-time, while continuing to work as a lighting specialist for an engineering consultancy, impressed judges with her ideas for the Tamar Bridge offices project.
The Tamar Bridge is a major road bridge at Saltash and Plymouth which carries traffic between Cornwall and Devon over the River Tamar. Currently undergoing a major refurbishment, the project will include a new control room, staff facilities and an education suite.
‘It wasn’t easy studying for a Masters and working but the course was extremely rewarding and I was thrilled when they told me I had won the award’, says Bonnie. ‘I do think it will help my career development and I’m delighted that my hard work – and my ideas! – were recognised in this way.’
