Health partnership to benefit over 12,000 operatives

As part of a campaign that will ultimately benefit over 12,000 operatives in the electrical industry, JIB members can access CBH’s Construction Health Action Toolkit (CHAT), an interactive occupational health management system to assess and manage occupational health for their workforce.

Using the risk analysis generated by CHAT, an action plan can then be developed that includes items such as training and awareness, toolbox talks and other effective actions to address and minimise risks to employees’ health.

Members will also have access to occupational health assessments to identify any workplace health issues that may affect individuals, to allow their employer to make adjustments to their day-to-day activities.

A free and impartial National Advice Line to provide guidance on work related health issues will also be available, along with wider benefits of CBH membership.

With around 3,700 deaths in the construction industry caused each year as a result of occupational illnesses, the onus is on employers to ensure risks to staff are identified and addressed.

‘Whilst the ‘safety’ side of health and safety in the workplace is closely adhered to, the ‘health’ element often gets overlooked,’ said Steve Brawley, chief executive of the JIB. ‘The industry has done a fantastic job of driving down accidents over the years, but we’re now keen to help our members to minimise risks to employees’ health and equip them with the tools they need to fulfill their duties as an employer. We look forward to kickstarting our partnership with CBH to promote the importance and benefits of good occupational health practice.’

Over the forthcoming months the JIB will be demonstrating to members how it can take advantage of CBH services and the benefits it can deliver. For more information contact the JIB on 03333 218230.
