Banksy’s version of the famous ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’ appears on a wall with ADT bell box replacing the famous jewellery

The artwork, which is a parody of the famous 1665 painting by Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer, has been renamed ‘Girl with a Pierced Eardrum’ – perhaps a nod to the rise of urban noise pollution.

However, residents of Bristol can rest assured that their ear drums will not be pierced by the ringing of an ADT alarm, as the security firm monitors alarm systems 24/7 and thus responds quickly to alerts.

Banksy’s last artwork in the city was ‘Mobile Lovers,’ which appeared in a doorway in Clement Street in April. The notorious painter posted the image to his website with no explanation, but name checked a ‘Gallery Café Open Monday to Sunday, 9am – 2pm’ which hinted to residents the exact location of the painting.

Unfortunately, within hours of the painting appearing, the piece of artwork had been defaced with black paint splattering the image.
