Elizabeth Truss MP opens new GlassGuard warehouse

Elizabeth Truss, MP for South West Norfolk, officially opened the 10,000ft2 warehouse by cutting the ribbon with the directors of GlassGuard.

Adjacent to GlassGuard’s existing factory the new warehouse was acquired in 2013 and has been refurbished extensively. It will house GlassGuard’s logistics and distribution operations.

Following the replacement of all skylights, 35 GlassGuard SB luminaires with LumaStat daylight sensor control were installed. The PIR motion control and daylight harvesting features of the luminaires means that energy wastage is minimised thus delivering significant energy and financial savings.

Eleven bays of pallet racking were fitted and a kanban system introduced as part of GlassGuard’s continuous improvement and lean manufacturing programme.

A new reach truck was acquired for dedicated use in the new warehouse. To ensure workplace transport safety, separate vehicle and pedestrian doors were installed between the factory and warehouse with a pedestrian walkway marked out.

GlassGuard CEO David Payne said, ‘Our new warehouse is evidence of our continued success. We are proud to be a leading business in the region, making significant contributions to the local economy and local employment. The manufacturing and distribution efficiencies that we have put in place enable us to compete competently and successfully on the world stage.’

Elizabeth Truss MP, said, ‘I was delighted to open the new GlassGuard warehouse in Thetford. The extensive range of fragment retention coatings is incredibly impressive and with sales growth of over 34 per cent in the last year, the company is going from strength to strength.

‘The staff showed great enthusiasm for the company’s product, giving a well informed and detailed tour of the facility; the new warehouse will certainly provide many opportunities for further expansion.’
