Communicating how work in plumbing, heating, electrics and engineering maintenance is changing and requiring able and capable people has involved JTL in the first National Conference of the recently formed Career Development Institute, the new nationwide professional body of career advisers and those involved in their training.
Spread over two days in Stratford-upon-Avon, the advisers learnt about JTL’s candidate assessment service and the extensive online information and registration available through the company’s comprehensive website. In November, JTL also enhanced career opportunity messages to parents of young people preparing to make career and study choices.
Video work that involves interviews with parents who were at first sceptical of their son or daughter’s career choice, shows their pride in achievements that include qualifications and a bright future in building services engineering.
’We felt it important, as the country’s largest and most successful training provider in the sector to present positive messages which underpin the future of our industries,’ said JTL’s Richard Allen.
‘Key to retaining our industry leading timely success rates on apprenticeship programmes is being able to offer employers a choice of talented young people. It is vital that people responsible for informing and advising the young people of today are in possession of the facts as they are – not their perceptions based on the memories of 20 years ago. We see it as very much part of our role to help do this and explain the exciting opportunities that a career in building services engineering can provide.’
