Sir Geoff Hurst enthrals audience at Live North

Hundreds of visitors poured through the doors to listen to a number of seminars and presentations, including a keynote speech from guest speaker Sir Geoff Hurst.
The 1966 World Cup winning hero regaled the audience with stories from his career as a centre forward with West Ham, Stoke and most notably England. The only man to ever score a hat-trick in a World Cup final also spoke about his time in business and drew on the characteristics required to succeed in both.

‘Whether it is sport or business, if you want to be successful you have to be passionate,’ said Sir Geoff. ‘Having people around you working to the same goal is also important. I had a great manager and a great team full of different characters. You also need that bit of luck to be in the right time at the right place. I got my chance when Jimmy Greaves got injured, and you have to be ready to take it as inevitably your chance will come.’

In addition to the technical talks, there was a busy exhibition hall and attendees took advantage of some great offers from leading names in the electrical industry, including Click Scolmore, WF Senate, ESP and Peugeot – who brought along a rally simulator for guests to enjoy. Visitors also had the opportunity to spend time and chat with various teams from NICEIC and ELECSA including customer services, technical, insurance, sales and online certification.

Mark Smith, head of group marketing at NICEIC and ELECSA, said, ‘Live North was a chance for us to meet contractors and let them know about the changes that have gone on within NICEIC and ELECSA over the last 12 months and an opportunity for us to gain feedback from those on the frontline.

‘As ever, the technical seminars with Tony Cable and Darren Staniforth were packed out and it just goes to show that contractors do have a genuine passion and enthusiasm for their work and are keen to learn more about how they can improve their business.’
