Legrand in the fast lane with Birmingham Box project

Legrand’s Swifts perforated cable tray has been used for new overhead gantries currently being installed as part of the Birmingham Box M6 upgrade project.

Work on the project, which will make the M6 a managed motorway between junctions 5 and 8, began in April 2012 and is due for completion in 2014. It is aimed at relieving congestion on this notoriously busy stretch of road by using technology to enforce variable speed limits, and enabling the hard shoulder to be opened up as a running lane during peak times.

The overhead gantries, which will house CCTV and signalling equipment, are being installed by Nusteel. The Kent based steel bridge and gantry specialist chose to specify Swifts SRF heavy duty cable tray following the completion of similar successful projects on the M1 and M25.

Clive Brooker, company buyer at Nusteel, said, ‘I had no hesitation in using Legrand’s high quality heavy duty cable tray system. It has consistently been on time and budget with previous major contracts.’

Due to the external location of the installation, the Swifts tray was specified in a hot dipped galvanised finish, which delivers excellent corrosion resistance properties.
