Busy contractors forced to neglect home DIY, according to new research
At this time of keen competition and heightened job pressures, new research from Newey & Eyre has revealed that the UK’s busy contractors have less time to delve into a bit of home DIY than ever before.
More than half (52 per cent) of respondents said that as a result of the recession they have had no choice but to work longer hours, whether in order to stay extra competitive, exceed customer expectations or maximise every job opportunity to make as much money possible. Of these, a third (29 per cent) work an additional 5-10 hours a week, while a further third (29 per cent) put in as much as an extra 10 or more hours a week.Notably, it would seem that this hard work ethic is further coerced by a burgeoning level of consumer expectation, with a whopping 91 per cent of contractors asserting that today’s customers are increasingly demanding more for their money.
Not surprisingly then, almost nine out of 10 (87 per cent) of the UK’s grafter contractors are severely limited to how much time they can now spend in employing their handy skills at home, with 92 per cent saying this leaves them thoroughly frustrated.
