ECA joins PAS 2030 Green Deal Steering Group

The Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) has been invited to join the BSI PAS 2030 Steering Group, which covers the installation of Green Deal energy efficiency and renewables measures.

PAS 2030 will become the installation standard for Green Deal and other green refurbishment arrangements. Installers will have to meet the requirements in the PAS to operate under Green Deal schemes.

Paul Reeve, head of business policy at the ECA, is representing the Association on the steering group. Reeve said, ‘ECA members’ expert knowledge will help to ensure that both installers and customers benefit from a broader range of energy saving and renewables measures under the Green Deal, and that these measures are properly installed so that they deliver excellent energy performance. In particular, PAS 2030 needs to include ‘active’ energy saving measures – such as heating and lighting controls for domestic and commercial buildings – so the Green Deal can offer customer choice and have the biggest possible impact.’

Reeve continued, ‘Building services contractors will have a critical role in installing active measures  under the Green Deal, as well as providing practical advice to customers on which energy saving measures are most suitable in their homes and businesses.’

The ECA has a range of support services available to its members to keep them up to date with the latest Green Deal developments, and how to put forward active energy saving measures. This includes an ‘Energy Solutions’ website, an expert ‘advice line’ and e-forum, all of which cover the introduction of the Green Deal, which is expected to be well on stream by early 2013. To access the website, ECA members need to fill in a registration form by visiting: http://forum.eca.co.uk/Registration.aspx
