SummitSkills staff support WorldSkills London 2011

SummitSkills staff are working hard to make the very best of an opportunity to promote careers in building services engineering to up to 150,000 visitors at the largest vocational skills competition in the world, WorldSkills London 2011 at ExCel London from 4th to 8th October.

As well as being a unique competition where up to 1,000 young people from over 50 countries will take part over four days in professional level competitions in 45 different skill areas, the event provides young people with the chance to find out more about the skills they will need for a range of careers. SummitSkills will be there promoting BSE career opportunities and will be running ‘have a go’ sessions for visitors, as well as supporting three of the UK finalists who were selected to represent the country after winning SummitSkills’ national Skill M&E competitions.

SummitSkills is also awarding its annual Awards for Excellence (formerly the National Training Awards) for building services engineering at the event, enabling guests at the awards ceremony to visit the WorldSkills event while they are at ExCel.

Keith Marshall OBE, chief executive of SummitSkills, said, ‘We are proud to be a partner in the WorldSkills London 2012 event and looking forward to meeting visitors as they come to the event to find out more about vocational skills. Good luck to our three BSE sector competitors – they have proven themselves to be very talented through our own skills competitions and we are sure they will do their best as they represent their country.’

Stuart Miller, competing at WorldSkills for the refrigeration medal, was winner of the 2010 SkillFRIDGE competition. Chris Young won 2009’s SkillELECTRIC competition and will be competing at WorldSkills for the electrical installations medal and Shane Trevitt will be competing for the WorldSkills plumbing and heating medal, following his win last year at SkillPLUMB.
