SkillElectric finalists announced

The 10 competitors who will compete in the 2011 SkillElectric UK final have been named.

All will go head to head at Leeds College of Building on 14th-16th September in a challenging practical task spanning the three days, in the quest to be crowned SkillElectric champion.

The task involves the installation of several circuits including control circuits with various components and equipment, simulated motors and fire protection cabling – all to an exact specification and a strict time schedule.

This year the competition will be held side by side with SkillPlumb, SkillFridge, SkillPipe and the 10 competitions that comprise SkillBuild in a joint event that will see around 150 trainees compete in front of hundreds of visitors.

The finalists are:

Aston Baker – DPL Electrical/Otley College, Ipswich and JTL

Ross Borland – Claud Hamilton Electrical Services/SECTT, Scotland

Adrian Canning – RMG Electrics/North West Regional College, N. Ireland and Skillbuild NI

Alexander Culverhouse – NES/Northampton College

SkillElectric is organised by SummitSkills, the Sector Skills Council for building services engineering.

‘Having the competition held in the same hall as its partner events this year will really add to the excitement and atmosphere for the competitors,’ said Neil Collishaw of SummitSkills. We’re looking for someone who can deliver a high quality of work precisely to specification and within timescales; we wish all finalists the best of luck.’
