SCS Group to race the sun to help sick children

SCS Group is gearing up to race the sun to raise money for premature and sick babies.

On 3rd September the firm will be taking part in the Race the Sun challenge to raise funds for Action for Children.

Teams start the challenge at sunrise and attempt to finish by sunset, so are quite literally racing the sun. Two SCS Group teams will cycle a total of 50 miles (80kms), hike to the summit of England’s second highest mountain Helvellyn at 3,116ft (950m) and canoe a 2.5 mile (4kms) course on Thirlmere.

The company aims to raise £3,000 to help medical research aimed at stopping the suffering of babies and children caused by disease and disability. Every year in the UK, over 7,500 babies are stillborn or die before their first birthday. Many more suffer debilitating illnesses or survive complications that can leave them disabled.

Action Medical Research’s Touching Tiny Lives appeal is helping to reduce the number of babies affected by pregnancy complications, tackle the massive problem of premature birth and improve the care of sick and vulnerable babies.

SCS Group managing director Allan Meek said, ‘A number of our team are new or expectant parents so this is a cause close to our heart. It may sound suspiciously like a bunch of overgrown kids going off on a jolly and expecting others to pay for it in the name of charity. As Mother Teresa would have said, we’d like people to think it and donate anyway.’
