EEIBA gives Wendy a lift

EEIBA gives Wendy a lift

Wendy Murrell-Foster enjoyed a long and successful career in the electrical sector for 30 years before she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The effects of her illness meant she couldn’t take regular exercise but now, thanks to help provided by the Electrical and Electronics Industries Benevolent Association (EEIBA), she is able to swim on a daily basis.

Wendy is for the most part a wheelchair user and unable to exercise without severe pain, but has discovered that swimming in particular improves her strength and mobility, plus her general health and wellbeing.

In 2010 she installed a small above ground swimming pool at her home in Derbyshire, but found getting in and out of the water to be challenging. All through her working life she had been a keen and active supporter of EEIBA, and contacted the charity to see if they could help fund a special hydrotherapy hoist.

‘Having the hoist is absolutely brilliant,’ said Wendy. ‘I am now able to use the pool most days which means I’m much more active and as a result feeling a lot fitter.

‘I can really tell the difference in my day-to-day activities and my mobility has definitely improved since the hoist was installed. For years I supported EEIBA and never imagined that one day I would benefit from the help they provide and I’m absolutely thrilled with everything they’ve done for me.’

Over the years Wendy has specialised in telesales, stores and supply management, and finance, having worked for a number of leading national and independent electrical wholesalers including Sted (part of Dave George Electrical), STC, Edmundson Electrical, Advanced Electrical and ERF. She also spent time in the electrical contracting side of the industry with Goodmarriot & Hursthouse.
