SummitSkills board member rewarded in New Year’s Honours list

SummitSkills board member Graham Manly has been awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours list published on 31 December.

Graham, until recently, served on the board of the sector skills council for building services engineering and has been rewarded for his services to the sector. He is also business development director at building services company Gratte Brothers.

Keith Marshall OBE, chief executive of SummitSkills, said, ‘Graham has been a director of SummitSkills since the beginning and played a vital role in the development of our governance arrangements. His contribution is not just within our own organisation, helping to make sure that the right training and development are available to meet current and future demands. He has also played an important part in other groups and organisations which have influenced the shape of our sector.

‘His years of working in building services engineering and his experience of running his own company have equipped him with insight which, combined with a passion to keep improving the sector, make him a valued member of any team. This honour is well deserved.’

Graham was president of the Heating and Ventilating Contractors Association in 2009/10, is also a past president of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers and was a former chairman of the Building Services Research and Information Association. He has also recently joined the board of the National Skills Academy for Environmental Technologies as chair. The Academy is a national network of providers of accredited training in renewable technology, which was set up in February last year by SummitSkills.

Graham was managing director of A G Manly and Co from 1982 until its acquisition by Gratte Brothers in July 2000. He is a chartered engineer, a CIBSE fellow and a member of the Institute of Refrigeration.
