Places now available at extra Green Deal Connections roadshow event in London
The Green Deal Connections events are coming back to London, giving SMEs the chance to find out how their businesses can benefit from the Green Deal.Due to popular demand, an extra date has been added to the Green Deal Connections calendar of events. The second date gives organisations interested in becoming Green Deal installers or assessors – who missed the previous roadshows, including the London launch event last month – the chance to find out more about the skills required under the government’s flagship initiative to improve the energy efficiency of UK homes and businesses.
The new session in London on 21st February has, like the rest of the series of Connections events, been organised by the Green Deal Alliance (GDSA), a partnership of three sector skills councils –SummitSkills, Asset Skills and CITB-ConstructionSkills. The half day sessions are free and will benefit those currently working in the installation and maintenance of renewable environmental technologies, or organisations who are interested in expanding their business into these areas. They also cover the skills needs for Green Deal energy advisors and building fabric/insulation installers.
As the October 2012 launch date of Green Deal gets closer, the sessions are proving increasingly popular, with most sessions being oversubscribed. The new London event will provide another opportunity for those who may have missed out. The remaining Green Deal Connections events taking place are:
• Glasgow 15th February
• London 21st February
• Manchester 7th March
Keith Marshall OBE, chief executive of SummitSkills, said, ‘There has been so much talk recently about the Green Deal that not surprisingly many employers tell us they are unsure of where to start to prepare their people and their organisations to support and take advantage of the initiative.
‘These events will guide visitors through the mass of information towards exactly what potential installers of environmental technologies need to know. Working with our partners Asset Skills and ConstructionSkills has enabled us to make the most of our joint resources and of each sector skills council’s expertise in their industries.’
The GDSA will develop and implement the Green Deal Competency Framework, which aims to develop common standards and qualifications to sit across all aspects of Green Deal assessment, advice and installation. The project is funded by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES) through Phase One of the Employer Investment Fund (EIF).
