New training partnership as Bicton EaRTH launches solar PV installation course

South West environmental and renewable technologies hub Bicton EaRTH has teamed up with Exeter’s Atlantic Training to deliver a Level 3 course for the installation and maintenance of solar PV up to 5kW.

The purpose built EaRTH centre, opened in 2012, combines innovative demonstration space with practical facilities for technology specific training and is part of Bicton College.

Graham Waddell (right of picture), head of EaRTH at Bicton College said, ‘This is an exciting time for us. Although we have run a number of successful training courses and events at the centre since it opened last year, this is the first installer training course to be offered through a partnership with a local supplier. We are delighted that Atlantic Training has come on board to give us, and course participants, the benefit of their experience.’

Head tutor at Atlantic Training Shaun Davies (left of picture), who will deliver the course, has worked as an electrical contractor for 26 years with eight years as a trainer. He has been helping to train electricians in solar PV installation for the past six years and set up Atlantic Training in 2012.

Davies said, ‘With the cost of panels falling, and savings rates remaining low, solar PV continues to generate lots of interest from homeowners looking for a long term investment, particularly in the South West. We feel that experienced electricians will find it beneficial to be able to offer solar PV services to their customers – including maintenance and servicing of existing systems.’

The four day course starts on 4th February and includes all course material and certification fees. Candidates require a minimum of Part P and 17th Edition.
