NET To Run SkillElectric 2017

NET will run the 2017 SkillElectric competition. The industry charity will organise the regional heats of the competition, coordinate the judging panel and liaise with the competition’s supporters and other sponsors.

Once the regional heats of SkillElectric have been completed, NET will work with WorldSkills UK to deliver the national final at the Skills Show in Birmingham, where eight candidates from the regional heats will battle it out for the competition’s gold medal.

NET chief executive Carolyn Mason says: “I’m delighted that we’re running SkillElectric again and looking forward to working with WorldSkills UK to deliver the final of this year’s competition. We’re committed to supporting the development and promotion of skills in our industry, and SkillElectric is a fantastic way of doing this.

The competition enables the industry to recognise the investment employers make in their apprentices, the talents and abilities of those who are the future of our industry and highlight the skills needed to work as an electrician. It’s an important showcase for the industry and the people within it, and I’m thrilled that we’re able to support it again this year.”

WorldSkills UK chief executive Dr Neil Bentley comments: “It’s great news that NET will be running this year’s SkillElectric competition and working with us to deliver the national final at the Skills Show. NET’s involvement last year meant we put on an incredibly successful competition and, as a result, really showcase the talent that is being developed in the electrical industry. I’m delighted they’re involved again and know the 2017 competition will be an excellent one.”

He continues: “WorldSkills UK competitions are proven to enhance a person’s apprenticeship or training programme by enabling them to develop key character and employability skills. By using knowledge gained from competing nationally and internationally, we know we are working to benchmarks that will equip more young people with the right skills to help UK businesses compete better globally.”

SkillElectric will open for entries on 1st March 2017. For further information, visit: https://www.worldskillsuk.org/worldskills-uk-competitions/find-a-competition
