Megger lends DIY SOS a helping hand

The MFT1730 tester Megger has provided for the show is a top of the range instrument ideal for testing electrical installations in line with the 17th Edition of the IET Wiring Regulations.

The MFT1730 is extensively protected against damage if it is accidentally connected to a live supply when a dead circuit test is selected, and this protection is effective even if the test has been locked on. The unit is also lightweight and IP54 rated, which means that it can be easily transported from site to site, and it is also splash proof and ingress protected. All essential features for an instrument being used on a fast moving TV programme.

In addition, the unit benefits from large backlit display panels and timesaving features like two wire non-trip loop testing, auto-start continuity testing and auto-RCD testing.

‘The equipment Megger provided will be put to good use’, explained Kerry Burdett, sales engineer for Megger. ‘In this instance, the MFT1730 will be used on a project for a family of five with a disabled son, so safety is paramount’, she concluded.

Having first aired on 7th October 1999, DIY SOS is one of the longest running TV series on the BBC. The DIY television series has, over the years, updated, remodeled and decorated houses for hundreds of families across the country. The show’s presenter Nick Knowles finds homeowners in need of DIY help and with his team of qualified builders and support from local trades, turns their property into a beautiful home.
