JTL opens new AM2 facility at Birmingham Centre of Excellence

This new facility is targeted predominantly at JTL’s own electro-technical apprentices in the final phase of their four year Level 3 programme, but it is also available to commercial training businesses, colleges and employers looking to utilise the facility.

AM2 is a three day industry recognised trade test, controlled by the National Electrotechnical Training (NET). It’s a practical assessment with a short online component, taken over 16 hours in total. During this time participants will undertake a series of timed tasks in specially equipped booths containing typical electrical installation wiring systems. It encompasses methods of installation and termination, safe isolation, risk assessment, inspection and testing and fault finding.

The online multiple choice examination which forms part of the AM2 will require those taking the test to have knowledge of and be able to reference and understand a number of components contained within the 17th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations, Installers guide to the Wiring Regulations, Guidance Note 3 and the Onsite Guide textbook.

The provision of the new AM2 facility at JTL’s Birmingham centre is just the latest phase of the development of a facility acquired by JTL in the Summer of 2013, which has gone through major changes and upgrading. Included are eight impressive electrical training bays as well as well equipped classroom areas and a plumbing and H & V workshop. The centre is close to the M6 and Birmingham’s railway stations, and has extensive free parking on site.

Overseeing the development of the site – which is now attracting participants on both apprenticeships and short course programmes from across the Midlands – has been Richard Dady, commercial manager of JTL. He is available on richarddady@jtltraining.com to discuss booking of the AM2 facility.
