SkillELECTRIC Finalists Announced

The eight competitors who will compete in the 2017 SkillELECTRIC UK final have been named, following a series of challenging regional heats earlier this year.

All will now go head-to-head in a three-day practical task on November 16-18 at The Skills Show, the UK’s largest skills and careers event at the NEC Birmingham where over 50 WorldSkills UK national competitions will be held across different occupations.

In the quest to be crowned SkillELECTRIC champion, contestants will have to install a complicated set of four circuits with various components and equipment, simulated motor and central heating controls.

The finalists are:

  • Shaun Gornall, Picow Electrical Engineering Ltd, North West Training Council
  • Declan Goulding, FSL Controls, South West College
  • Connor Lewis, Blues Electrical, Cardiff and Vale College
  • Thomas Lewis, Blues Electrical, Cardfiff and Vale College
  • Marc Marshall, Courtland Properties, Shrewsbury College of Arts & Technology
  • Piaras McElean, TAS Controls, South West College
  • Thomas Seward, PI Lewis Ltd, Coleg Gwent
  • Thomas Williamson, Lloyd Morris Electrical, Coleg Cambria

SkillELECTRIC is organised by National Electrotechnical Training (NET) and has the JIB as its lead sponsor. This year for the first time, competitors will also benefit from testing equipment donated by Seaward.

“There has been an excellent quality of work this year, so we’re looking forward to seeing the best young apprentices across the industry battle it out to be named champion of the UK,” says Jon Dicken of NET. “Being watched by over 70,000 visitors at the Skills Show is an added challenge for the competitors, but it’s a great experience for them and the event is an excellent platform to showcase their skills and talents.”
