The new facility is located alongside the company’s headquarters in Orpington, Kent and was officially opened in front of more than fifty guests by local MP Jo Johnson on 22nd January in the presence of the Mayor of Bromley Borough, Councillor Kim Botting. Following a significant investment by the company, the new centre provides training facilities for electrical apprentices with a capacity to provide training for 250 learners.
There are three new cohorts starting in February 2016 – a further 100 learners to add to the more than 6,000 that JTL is currently progressing through their apprenticeships across England and Wales. These apprentices will provide a steady stream of additional footfall to Orpington’s bustling High Street, with students in the first cohort coming from as far afield as Bedfordshire to use the new training facility.
Jo Johnson MP highlighted the importance of apprenticeships to the UK and welcomed the new centre in his constituency: ‘The Government is committed to raising the quantity and quality of apprenticeships, to address the skills gap and meet the need for qualified electricians and other tradesmen that are so vital to this country’s on-going success,’ he said.
