Stroma Certification delivers third party electrical scheme

Electricians can get membership of the new third party scheme for free when joining Stroma’s Part P Competent Person Scheme for only £288. Membership numbers for CPS at Stroma have rocketed since the ‘fully loaded’ £288 offer was introduced last year and this additional incentive is expected to draw even more interest from the electrical market in the coming months.

Stroma has built a strong reputation for always adapting to industry-led changes and creating opportunities for its customers. The Building Regulations amendment which introduced third party certification was a vote of confidence for approved electricians by transferring authority for installation checks away from Building Control. Stroma’s introduction of a third party scheme recognises this by giving electricians the chance to play an active part in upholding standards and promoting good practice within the industry. Previously, issues of non-compliance were not always reported back to Building Control, leaving errors unchecked and potential dangers. The procedures put into place by Stroma’s third party scheme require non-compliant installations to be reported, with the responsibility of the third party inspector to then correct and make the installation safe.

Stroma’s third party scheme is closely monitored to uphold the high standards kept by all Stroma-certified electricians and the majority of other installers working within the industry. Membership of both their electrical schemes offers the opportunity for Stroma-certified electricians to advertise their services to more customers. Third party certification actively puts the electrician in front of customers with an affordable offer and greater range of services. The opportunity for Part P installers to cross-sell their installation services on top of verifying existing work is clear. Recent research has shown that DIY skills are declining amongst the general public and demand is growing for competent, qualified and reliable installers.

Third party certification represents a partnership between Stroma Certification and its Part P members. It recognises the expertise of individuals with the Part P standard and offers certification so they can reach a wider industry. It also promotes the fact that qualified electricians need to be involved in the installation process, backed by an industry approved certification body to confirm that work is being completed to a compliant standard.

Stroma Certification installer membership delivers a package which fulfills regulatory requirements and then provides support through a combination of software, insurance, technical assistance and membership benefits. It makes life easier for an installer by not only helping businesses during set up, but allowing them to thrive thereafter.

Andy Sharp, commercial manager, said: ‘This is excellent news for Stroma Certification and our customers. Our new scheme builds upon an already expansive catalogue of certification schemes and software and ensures that Stroma maintains a comprehensive certification offering for the installer market. We believe that third party certification allows our members to advertise their businesses more effectively and will help to reduce instances of non-compliance.’

In addition to providing the scheme itself, Stroma is also in a position to help applicants meet the regulatory requirements for third party membership. Their new installer insurance product is exclusive to members and offers policies in line with the minimum £2 million public liability and £250,000 professional indemnity cover required by registered businesses.
