The successful ‘Get Fired Up’ scheme offers apprenticeship placements to students between the ages of 16 and 24, and provides a structured programme to help them build a thorough knowledge base of fire alarm systems, regulations, legislation and systems engineering.
The scheme, launched in 2007, was the first of its kind to be introduced to the sector and has since provided more than 60 recruits with an interesting career path in the fire and security industry.
In conjunction with ‘Skills for Security’, Gent looks after the marketing and recruitment processes for the course and the apprentices are then employed directly by one of its extensive network of Gent 24 System Integrators.
Trinity’s six students start their three year placements in November and are already gaining ‘on the job’ experience and working towards a City and Guilds 1853 Certificate in the Knowledge of Electronic Security and Emergency Systems.
Shaun Corbett, operations director at Trinity said, ‘We have been involved in the ‘Get Fired Up’ scheme for the last seven years and have awarded apprenticeship placements to a third of Gent’s total intake of recruits. We are delighted to be able to bring new people into our company and provide them with the opportunity to gain the valuable work experience and skills that are vital to carve a successful career in this industry.
‘I have a personal passion for apprenticeship schemes as it gave me a stepping stone into the working world 25 years ago. All of our apprentices are offered full time positions once they have completed the course, they can move up the ranks in their chosen field and this may even open up a long term managerial opportunities.’

The students complete the course with recognised qualifications and the ability to maintain fire detection and alarm systems to the highest standards.
