YESSS Electrical gets in training for volleyball event

YESSS Electrical will host the sitting volleyball event at its National Distribution Centre in Normanton on 30th July with teams from YESSS taking on competitors hoping to take part in the Invictus Games which take place in London from 10th-14th September 2014.

YESSS Electrical has become a supporting partner of the inaugural Invictus Games, an international sporting event for wounded, injured and sick Service personnel, championed by Prince Harry. Sir Keith Mills, chairman of the Invictus Games, and deputy chair of the London 2012 Organising Committee, will attend the event.
The Invictus Games will see more than 400 competitors from 14 nations compete in nine adaptive sports including sitting volleyball from in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the Lee Valley Athletics Centre.

Also on the programme will be athletics, archery, wheelchair basketball, road cycling, indoor rowing, wheelchair rugby, swimming and a driving challenge presented by Jaguar Land Rover. Teams will be invited from the armed forces of 14 nations that have served alongside each other, with relative newcomers to adaptive sport joining advanced athletes in an inclusive programme.

The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry, in partnership with the Ministry of Defence, launched the Invictus Games, presented by Jaguar Land Rover, earlier this year.

Andy Singleton, one of the founding directors of YESSS said, ‘In hosting one of the adaptive sports events that will be part of the Invictus Games we are hoping our staff and customers can appreciate how sport can inspire recovery and support rehabilitation for wounded, injured and sick Service personnel. We want to raise awareness of the Games and encourage the public to get behind this amazing event. We’re fully behind the Invictus Games and want to be much more than just be a passive supporter and what better way to do this than by actually giving one of the sports a go and learning from the experts?

‘The events of the Games in September will signify the start of a legacy programme to support accessibility of adaptive sport and further employment opportunities for transitioning Servicemen and women leaving the Armed Forces. For YESSS to be part of this legacy is a real privilege.’

The support of the Invictus Games links to the long term growth vision of YESSS and will enable the company to explore training opportunities for wounded, injured and sick Servicemen and women. YESSS commits millions of pounds annually to training its staff and has a number of former military service personnel amongst its growing workforce.

Tickets for the Invictus Games are currently on sale at www.invictusgames.org/ticket-info and cost £12.85 per person.
