Sudlows supports National Apprenticeship Scheme

This new scheme, starting in April, will see the apprentices placed in a variety of roles throughout Sudlows engineering and operational divisions including; Business Administration, Electrical, Mechanical and Connectivity roles.

Andy Hanlon, head of operations for Sudlows, commented, ‘Sudlows has always been a big advocate of the benefits of apprenticeship schemes and we are keen to invest further into the local community as well as help train our future engineers and business leaders.’

The new apprenticeship programme has been specifically designed with education partners, The Manchester College, to provide the apprentices with an opportunity to work in planning, estimation and operations in order to give them a wider range of skills over the full term. It is planned that the apprentices will continue, following their first year, on to the higher stage NVQ and BTEC qualification.

Andy continued, ‘Sudlows has supported apprenticeship schemes for many years as they have demonstrated a long term benefit to the business. The best example is that Sudlows’ current managing director, John Collins, started as an apprentice at Sudlows over 20 years ago, under what was known as the Youth Training Scheme.’

Pauline Worthington at The Manchester College commented, ‘Apprenticeships are a great way for young people to learn the right skills for the jobs that are available now and we have worked closely with Sudlows to create apprenticeships that benefit both the apprentices and Sudlows.

‘More and more companies like Sudlows are seeing the benefits of apprenticeships and are creating opportunities for local young people to gain the relevant skills to build a career.’
