Eaton’s latest white paper examines selection of final circuit protection

The white paper, entitled ‘Selection of Final Circuit Protection’, is written by Phil Williams, product marketing manager for Eaton’s Power Distribution Components sector, and is now available for free download on Eaton’s website at: http://bit.ly/FinalCircuitProtection.

With a wide range of options available, when specifying, designing or installing protection systems there are a number of factors to consider such as matching the characteristic of the device chosen with the application, whether or not it incorporates the increasing spread of ‘green energy’ products or whether it complies with recent regulations. The new white paper discusses the configuration of modern final circuit distribution and protection systems, concentrating particularly on consumer units, and also provides guidance on the selection of protection devices that are used in those systems.

In addition, the paper provides a concise overview of the main types of protection product currently available – miniature circuit breaker (MCBs), residual current circuit breaker (RCCBs) and residual current breakers with overcurrent protection (RCBOs) – along with their principal applications.

The conclusion of the white paper stresses the importance of an understanding of the relevant standards and regulations that govern the use of circuit protectors. The paper recommends seeking further guidance before selecting the final type of circuit protection.
