Employers invited to help shape future skills

SummitSkills is reviewing the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for the sector. These NOS define the competencies that are required by those carrying out certain functions within their job role to a nationally recognised level. They inform the content, design and delivery of skills based appraisals of individuals and organisations, job specifications, training and assessment programmes and qualifications for occupations in the electrotechnical, heating and ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration and plumbing industries.

This review of the current National Occupational Standards, which will be completed by spring 2014, will help the sector to continue to evolve and take account of changes in legislation, working practices, developing technology and the drive towards low carbon. The views and experience of employers, those who work with them and other BSE sector stakeholders will help to ensure the latest NOS identify the skills and knowledge that will make the sector effective, efficient, competitive and responsive in times of change.

Keith Marshall OBE, chief executive of SummitSkills, said, ‘As our sector changes, we must review the NOS regularly to ensure that our workforce has access to high quality training which equips employees with the right skills for the future. We can’t do this without the valuable input of those working day-to-day on the job, and those who work alongside them or support them. If you are interested in helping to ensure the future success of the sector, taking part in this review is a good way to know that you are making a difference.’

·         Building Services Engineering Technology and Project Management

·         Domestic Heating

·         Electrotechnical
