The Electric Event – June 2013

The Electric Event – June 2013

June 2013 sees the beginning of a new era for the electrical industry with The Electric Event – an exciting new conference and exhibition experience that promises to be unmissable.

The Electric Event is to be held at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Birmingham from 20th-22nd June 2013. It brings together under one roof the annual ECA Electrical Industry Conference, an all new, exciting Technology Live workshop session and Meet the Suppliers exhibition, alongside a prestigious new Gala Dinner and Awards.

The three day event is being put together to showcase the very latest and best the electrical industry has to offer, including cutting edge technology demonstrations, presentations by key business speakers and industry experts, and valuable technical workshops.

Bringing together suppliers, specifiers and contractors, The Electric Event has been developed in consultation with industry leaders, to provide a high quality, must visit experience for everyone within the electrical contracting, and wider building services sector. With its accessible location in central England, and built around a flexible format, visitors can choose to attend the whole event – or just drop in for the Technology Live workshops day.

Among those already signed up to support The Electric Event are Amtech, CEDIA, Dimplex, Eaton, ECIC, Edmundson Electrical, Electric Centre, Electrium, Hochiki, the JIB, JTL, Kingfisher Lighting, Legrand, Marshall Tufflex, Newey & Eyre, Osram, Schneider Electric, Scolmore, Siemens, Thorn Lighting and WF Electrical.

Day one, conference

The Electric Event will open on Thursday 20th June with the 100th inauguration of a new ECA president for 2013-14. This will be followed by the start of the ECA Electrical Industry Conference which will host a variety of high level presentations and keynote speeches from members of the electrical and construction industry, business experts and representatives from government. They will deliver detailed analysis of the current marketplace and look at new developments and opportunities within the sector from a wide range of perspectives.

Towards the end of the day, a Q&A forum session with the speakers will stimulate discussion. When the day’s business is completed, an evening social event, with a meal and live entertainment, will provide a relaxing occasion – and networking opportunities – for delegates.

Day two, Meet the Suppliers exhibition and Technology Live Workshops

On Friday 21st June, The Electric Event will feature the new Technology Live workshops and Meet the Suppliers exhibition, which will bring together the industry’s leading manufacturers and suppliers to display their very latest products and services. Visitors will be able to get their hands on many new products and materials, talk to the producers and view demonstrations of new kit. The exhibition promises to be an invaluable showcase for new technology – and a great opportunity for businesses looking to move into new areas of work or wanting to try out new solutions.

A series of Technology Live workshops will be running throughout the day covering key themes for electrical contractors. There will be six workshop streams from which delegates can choose to participate:

Lighting;

Home automation, digital communication and AV;

Fire and security systems;

Electrical power distribution and control;

Energy solutions; and

ECA business services, standards and legislative updates.

Delegates have a choice of 30 separate workshops, five different ones for each of the six streams, with the morning sessions repeated in the afternoon to allow delegates maximum flexibility in their programme.

Day three, Conference and Gala Dinner and Awards

On Saturday 22nd June, the ECA Electrical Industry Conference continues with a further series of keynote speeches and expert presentations, plus a special guest speaker, TV presenter and adventurer Ben Fogel rounding off the business part of the event. In the evening, comedian and TV personality Marcus Brigstocke will host the ECA Gala Dinner and Awards night.

The Gala Dinner is one of the established traditions of the ECA Electrical Industry Conference. Ending The Electric Event in style, this black tie occasion will also see the introduction for the first time of the ECA Annual Awards, acknowledging the very best in the electrical contracting industry. The awards will recognise the excellence, innovation and best practice of ECA registered members in the electrical and electronic business services engineering sector.

Winners will be selected by an independent panel of experts, and chosen because they demonstrate the highest standards to which others should aspire. The awards will include:

ECA Large Contractor of the Year (sponsored by Amtech)

ECA Medium Sized Contractor of the Year (sponsored by Schneider Electric)

ECA Small Sized Contractor of the Year (sponsored by Edmundson Electrical);

Best Client/Contractor Partnership (sponsored by ECIC)
