SeaKing Electrical completes international contract on Bibby Renaissance

SeaKing Electrical has completed a major international contract delivering an electrical upgrade to part of the Bibby Renaissance ship.

The Birkenhead firm is a specialist in electrical engineering working across the global marine, offshore and industrial markets.

It was responsible for revamping the central air conditioning plant for the 332 bedroomed vessel to bring greater control and usability. The deal involved work across ports in Malaysia and Singapore.

The work was carried out prior to the ship’s assignment to the Barrow Island offshore development in North Western Australia.

SeaKing group business development manager Neil Mellenchip (pictured) said, ‘This is a terrific contract demonstrating the electrical engineering expertise we can offer. It also shows the strength of our global reach and ability to work on international projects. We sent out a team of three technicians to complete the Renaissance contract.

‘The work involved a complete upgrade to the vessel’s air conditioning system. This included fitting new panel controls to the air conditioning hub located in the plant room. We installed programmable logical controllers (PLCs) and  improved visual indication to make the entire system much easier to use. The new controls allow temperature conditions around the vessel to be managed with greater efficiency. They also show a broader range of parameters helping with the overall management of the air conditioning equipment including items like compressors.’

The Bibby Renaissance Coastel is used for offshore accommodation and has a range of facilities including a restaurant, games rooms, gymnasiums and roof terrace.

SeaKing Electrical worked alongside fellow Birkenhead and marine refrigeration specialist Brooktherm to complete the job. It involved electrical technicians Chris Potter and Ryan Millman and software engineer Tony Parr.
