Power and lighting company ranked fastest growing in South Yorkshire

A company that provides power and lighting products for commercial buildings has been ranked as the fastest growing company in South Yorkshire over the last five years.

CMD is a £16m turnover UK designer and manufacturer of underfloor power systems, lighting control systems and ergonomic desk furniture such as flatscreen monitor arms.

The business has been ranked highest on a list of companies with its headquarters in South Yorkshire based on continuous average annual growth in turnover over the last five years starting from a base of £1m. The list is compiled annually by Insider Media.

During this time CMD experienced average annual growth of 62.1 per cent.

Established in 1984, the business underwent a management buyout from its venture capital partner in 2008, backed by Royal Bank of Scotland.

Managing director Steve Cole (pictured) said, ‘This was a momentous opportunity to form the basis of our new culture and show the outside world what we are all about. We grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

‘Since the buyout we have identified the need to become more marketing driven and sales based.’

Cole puts the company’s growth down to ‘good, old fashioned customer service’ and a commitment to new product development in areas such as energy saving devices.

Cole said, ‘This has been a very successful year for us, and one in which we have been nominated for several awards.

‘We are being recognised for our products’ sustainability and that by using the right electrical power products energy can be saved in the office.

‘Our new Footprint system gives businesses the opportunity to control any electrical device in their work space virtually, from screens and printers to photocopiers and lights.’
